A practical way to prevent or overcome leaks and seepage in buildings is with leak-proof protection/waterproofing. Therefore, here we will explain what exactly is meant by waterproofing.

Waterproofing is a procedure that can make an object or media resistant or impermeable to water.

The purpose of using waterproofing is nothing more than protecting and maintaining the resilience of building structures. Usually, this building protection is installed in certain parts such as the basement (underground), roof, and other wet areas.

It is important to choose the right type of waterproofing considering that leakage of houses and buildings is a very serious problem and affects the cost of repairs that can be high. Generally, leaks occur in the following areas:

  • Basement (underground)
  • Roof Deck (not concrete)
  • Ground Water Tank (groundwater tank)
  • Swimming pool
  • Construction joint

If the use of waterproofing has been carried out but leaks still occur, this failure can be caused by several things, including:

  • The choice of waterproofing is not quite right
  • Incorrect job execution
  • The applicator is inexperienced or careless
  • The quality of the waterproofing is not good

Waterproofing has types that can protect an area so that water does not enter it. When viewed from the system, here’s 5 types of waterproofing that inspires us at Bukit Vista:

1. Waterproofing Coating

The coating system or coating is a water-based protection system. The shape and form resemble paint but are thicker and chewier. Besides that, the usage is almost the same, namely using a brush. The fields that use this system most often are water storage tanks, concrete gutters, roofs, sidewalls, and galvalume.

There are times when this one system is also made from cement. In use, it is necessary to mix cement with a liquid solution. After the two are well blended, they can be applied directly to the leaking area.

2. Waterproofing Membrane

This waterproofing takes the form of sheets or rolls. Based on the material of manufacture, it can be divided into two, namely made from fiber and polyester. The membrane work method is relatively more complicated, namely by heating, burning/torching, and laminating it with glue.

There are three types of textures on the waterproofing membrane, namely those with smooth surfaces, sand-coated and stone-coated. In using this type of waterproofing it is necessary to be careful because if it is a little wrong, the risk of leakage will still occur. Usually, the use of waterproofing is used for concrete structures or roofs.

3. Waterproofing Flashband Self Adhesive

This is the type that can be used as protection for a building with a falshband or sheet. Generally, the sheet is not only coated with one layer but twice. One acts as an adhesive and the second acts as a leak barrier so that water cannot enter and seep through.

The materials used in this type of waterproofing flashband self-adhesive are made of the polyester membrane and aluminum foil or cover paint. Especially aluminum foil is a material that functions as a leak barrier. Meanwhile, the polyester material functions as an adhesive. This system is intended for floors, roofs, concrete gutters, and so on.

4. Waterproofing Integral

Integral waterproofing is a type of product that is generally mixed with concrete before it is cast so that it can be said to be part of the concrete mixture. With this system, basements, water reservoirs, swimming pools, and others will be more plastic, waterproof, less prone to cracking, and harder with up to 30% water savings.

5. Waterproofing Crystallising

The last waterproofing is applied to concrete surfaces either with a positive or negative system or mixed into concrete that has not been cast so that the concrete floors and walls become watertight. The active components in this waterproofing will enter and seep into the pores of the concrete, the reaction results change into crystals permanently so that the concrete cannot be penetrated by water.

The existence of this waterproofing is very suitable for use for concrete floors and walls with high water pressure, for example, basements, tunnels, ground tanks, reservoirs, and so on.
