Jimbaran, January 8th, 2024 – With the deepest regret, Bukit Vista must share the heartbreaking news of a tragic incident that occurred at Shankara Villa in Nusa Dua. On January 6th, 2024, a distressing event unfolded when a 2.5-year-old child of our beloved guests was found unresponsive in the pool around 17:45 WITA (GMT+8). Despite rapid and earnest efforts to provide help, the child tragically passed away.
The timeline of the incident is both swift and devastating. At 17:20 WITA, the child was joyfully playing near the pool, a fleeting moment captured in a photograph by the parents. Seeking a brief respite, the parents retreated for a short nap at 17:30 WITA. At 17:45 WITA, their rest was shattered by the discovery of their child unresponsive in the pool. They alerted our on-field team member, Eka, who immediately involved Bukit Vista representative Marcel and our team for urgent assistance. Without delay, an ambulance from RS BIMC Nusa Dua was summoned, arriving around 18:30. Despite the rapid response and best efforts of the medical team, the child was sadly pronounced deceased following a thorough medical evaluation.
At Bukit Vista, the safety and well-being of our guests are paramount, and this incident has deeply affected us all. We acted swiftly to support the family, involving our on-field team member and Bukit Vista representative who has been assisting the family continuously through this difficult time– at the hospital, the mortuary, and during interactions with the police. Our team has been in constant contact with the Taiwanese Embassy and local authorities, including the police in Kuta Selatan region, to ensure a thorough investigation and to provide any necessary support to the family.
Amidst this tragedy, we are acutely aware of concerns regarding the safety of our villas for children. We want to clarify that our accommodation descriptions have always been transparent about the villa’s facilities on listing description. We earnestly advise guests, particularly those with young children, to maintain vigilant supervision in pool areas.
