Atlas Nusantara: A New Lens on Bali’s Transformation

Hi, I’m Rama, HR Operations and Engagement at Bukit Vista. One of the most fulfilling parts of my role is witnessing how ideas grow into impactful innovations through the dedication of our team. Today, I want to share the story of an internal project that beautifully combines curiosity, technology, and storytelling: the Atlas Nusantara Map.

From Curiosity to Capability: Why We Built the Atlas Nusantara Map
At Bukit Vista, we often ask: how can we better understand the places we serve? Bali isn’t just a backdrop for hospitality—it’s a living, changing landscape shaped by people, culture, and time. We wanted a way to make that evolution visible. Previously, our insights into Bali’s spatial transformation came through anecdotes or scattered data. There wasn’t a simple, intuitive way for our team, partners, or guests to see the difference between the Bali of the past and today.
That limitation sparked an idea.

Introducing the Atlas Nusantara Map: A Journey Through Time
Thanks to the initiative of Reza Kurniawan, our Fullstack Developer, Bukit Vista now features an embedded, interactive map on our official website that offers a side-by-side comparison of Bali’s geography between 1965 and today. This tool isn’t just a map—it’s a visual time machine.
With just a few clicks, users can explore how tourism, infrastructure, and urban development have reshaped Bali over the decades. From rural villages turned into cultural hubs, to new roads and airports appearing on the horizon, the Atlas Nusantara Map invites you to witness history unfold.

How Atlas Nusantara Map Supports Our Future Vision
The Atlas Nusantara Map helps us deepen our local sensitivity. It reminds us that our properties, our guests, and our partners are all part of something bigger—a living ecosystem of change.
This map empowers:
  • Our property partners to appreciate the historical depth of their location
  • Our team to integrate local history into better guest storytelling and design
  • Our university partners to access a real-world case of GIS-based tourism research
When we say we embrace innovation, we don’t just mean apps and dashboards—we mean tools that enrich how we see and serve the world around us.

A Quiet Builder, A Big Impact of Atlas Nusantara
Behind this experience is Reza, whose work often speaks louder than words. As part of his internship transformation, Reza consistently showed us that technical skill, paired with user empathy, creates extraordinary value. From the Aether 3D platform to now the Atlas Nusantara Map, Reza has quietly redefined how we explore data and place. I’m proud to work alongside talents like him who not only solve problems but also spark new ways of seeing.

Limitations and What’s Next
The current version of the Atlas Nusantara Map comes with some technical constraints. Users cannot yet hide the side tabs due to platform restrictions from the Nusantara Atlas provider. However, Reza is already looking into possible workarounds to ensure a cleaner user interface in future iterations. For us, a launch is never the end. Every project is a living document. We iterate, we improve, and we adapt—just like the island we call home.

Let’s Build the Next Innovation Together
Whether you’re a university looking to bring industry collaboration into your classroom, or an ambitious talent excited to work on projects that matter, we invite you to explore the journey with us. This is innovation at Bukit Vista—thoughtful, real-world, and always evolving. Let’s connect.
