Bali tourism statistics 2026: the latest figures
Bali recorded 685,994 direct foreign visitor arrivals in August 2026, down 1.69% from July. Room occupancy reached 68.19% at star-rated hotels and 43.16% at non-star hotels and other accommodation.
These figures show the wider tourism picture. They do not measure the occupancy or income of an individual villa.

How to read these Bali tourism indicators
Direct foreign visitor arrivals
This series counts direct international arrival events recorded for Bali. It is not a count of unique people: a repeat visitor may appear more than once. It also excludes domestic tourist trips and does not measure length of stay, accommodation choice, villa bookings or visitor spending.
Hotel room occupancy rate (TPK)
BPS uses Tingkat Penghunian Kamar (TPK) for room occupancy. The star-rated hotel and non-star/other accommodation series are separate. Neither series should be relabelled as “Bali villa occupancy” or applied directly to a specific holiday rental.
Month-on-month and year-on-year change
- Month on month compares one month with the immediately preceding month. It can be affected by seasonality and the number of days in each month.
- Year on year compares the same month in different years. It is often more useful for seasonal markets, but one comparison still does not establish a long-term trend.
- Percentage points are the correct way to describe the difference between two occupancy rates.
What the latest data means for Bali villa owners
August gives owners a useful reminder: visitor arrivals and occupancy can move in different directions. Direct foreign arrivals fell 1.69% from July, while star-rated hotel occupancy rose by 0.90 percentage points. A change in one island-wide figure is not enough reason to raise or cut your villa’s nightly rate.
Start with what is happening around your property. Check your upcoming bookings, unbooked dates and achieved nightly rates against similar villas in the same area. A two-bedroom villa in Canggu competes with a different set of properties from a family villa in Ubud or a stay near Uluwatu’s surf beaches.
- Review your booking calendar: compare available nights and bookings with the same period last year, allowing for owner stays and maintenance closures.
- Check comparable villas: focus on location, bedroom count, facilities and guest experience before changing prices.
- Look beyond occupancy: review revenue alongside operating costs to understand what the bookings mean for your business.
