As Bukit Vista gets bigger, we’re using data more to understand what our guests want. We collect and study data about how our properties are doing, what our guests are doing, and what they’re saying in reviews. This helps us get a better idea of what our guests like and need. That’s what my team in data science focuses on.
A Glimpse of My Daily Activity as a Data Science Intern
My task changes from day to day, depending on the day of the week. I have three main tasks: setting property prices, predicting how much money our properties will make, and developing data-driven solutions to make our business run better. Every Monday, I work on setting property prices, but the other tasks are more flexible and can happen when they’re needed.

Luckily, we have a good source of data at Bukit Vista that helps me make decisions. We have data on how well our properties are doing and how guests are booking them. This data is a big help, especially when it comes to deciding how much we should charge for a property.

ChatGPT helped with my copywriting
I would say that I use third-party tools in 90% of my daily work. Tasks like creating a revenue projection report involve good copywriting skills so our partners will easily understand it, and I bet you already know it, I use ChatGPT a lot for this. This cuts the time needed to manually write a catchy and concise sentence.
Similarly, when I’m working on more technical stuff, I rely on a tool called GitHub Copilot. It helps me write code by giving suggestions when I tell it what I need. This way, I can concentrate on the overall logical flow rather than getting bogged down in the small details.
Automation To The Rescue
Oftentimes, I came across a team member having to spend much time to understand what the guests want. Imagine having to read tons of reviews left by guests on an Airbnb page when we have cutting-edge technology to process human language. By combining OpenAI‘s AI model and our company knowledge, my team and I developed a robust review summary generator.

This tool is part of GAIA, our company’s smart assistant. Now, all you have to do is tell GAIA what you want, and it gives you a quick summary, just like sending a message to a coworker. The summary will include detailed insights, including both the good and not-so-good things about a property, enhancing the way we cater to our guest’s needs effectively.
